It might be blunt, it might be cynical, but I find that it hits the nail on the head quite vigorously.
I'll cross my fingers, even though I don't believe in luck.

Wow, the Cologne Cathedral does look amazing. The scaffolding is very other worldly. It's almost distracting in the photo. At first I thought it was digitally added for some reason and I had to re-read your post to be sure I didn't miss something.

1) Haha, nope, no actual performance of anything. He literally just photobombed the picture—ran right up behind me shouting as my friend was taking the pic in front of the cathedral, then we did one or two more with the posing. It was very much one of those "make you feel guilty" moves, like washing your car when you're stuck at a red light.

2) About 3/4ths of the informational placards were in English. A few of them were only in German, though. I've noticed that in many museums I've been to. I don't know if that means they're still in the process of translating them, or they just didn't have space for the English text, or what. But generally you'd be okay. (They do this on trains, too, incidentally. The announcement in German will be two minutes long: announcing the next stop, connecting trains, the time, and which side to get off the train, while the announcement in English is just "Next stop is Cologne Main Station. Thank you for choosing Deutsche Bahn.") So it could just be laziness, too.

And yeah, it's been awesome! Currywurst isn't all that hard to make, either. I actually made it for dinner a few days ago and it was pretty successful. It's basically just sausage, and a tomato sauce with a bunch of spices including curry. Perhaps not as authentic as the stuff in Berlin, but the guy I'm staying with said it tasted just like it.

A couple of questions:
1) Other than look like a lovechild of V (for Vendetta) and Jack Sparrow, did that busker actually *perform* anything?
2) In the chocolate museum, were any of the signs in English? Dumb question probably, but someday when I grow up and try to recreate your world tour, I'd like to hit that museum and possibly stand a chance of knowing wtf is going on. Because hey, chocolate. That's important.

I can't believe you forgot your camera for that! CHOCOLATE, man! (See previous comment re/ important).

It sounds like you're having such a great time - I'm so jealous! And I desperately want to try some currywurst.

Yes, as the title alludes to, it's one of the many Roman busts of Antinous.

Ah, I didn't even talk about the food! We did have good food—all kinds of stuff we'd brought with us. The food in Paris is incredibly overpriced, easily the most expensive I've seen anywhere on my travels so far. Of course we were mostly around the touristy areas, where it was bound to be more expensive, but even when we went off the main areas and walked through other neighborhoods, the apparently local restaurants were just as bad. I'm sure that *somewhere* in the city there is good, reasonably priced French food, but we didn't find any.

Wow. Just... wow. I never had an interest in visiting Paris (you know me, I'm more interested in small pubs in Ireland/England/Scotland than any poofy artiste things!), but I'm shocked that they're not only in this sorry state, but that this isn't really discussed anywhere else. I hope you at least had some good food?
